-------------------------------

After hearing CHILD ABUSE, the trio's moniker seems more like a reference to violence inflicted by a toddler rather than upon one. The group's growled vocals, manic riffs and copious double-kick drumming nod to death metal. These loopy tones align with Tim Dahl's fuzzed-out bass and Oran Canfield's dense, swinging beats to create a highly technical sound that's also weirdly playful.
- Time Out New York

In their ten years of existence, CHILD ABUSE have become much more than a jarring name. The NY trio has fused elements of Noise, Death Metal, Free Jazz, and Grind (among other things) into something entirely their own, all the while becoming one of the most innovative, and polarizing bands in New York. "Trouble in Paradise", the band's third full-length release, expands on their forays into uncharted musical territory.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o
"New York's Child Abuse is a gloriously confrontational band, mixing the incoherent glugs of death metal, the dissonant meander of 12-tone composition, the atonal squonk of free-jazz, blasts of ucky noise, and a wet gob of old- fashioned punk rock. " - The Village Voice

o
"This is some gloopy, mutant shit right here: a kaleidoscopic rush of snot greens, crackling electric blues and putrid mustard yellows mainlined straight through a jagged hole in the skull to force terrifying visions of something that’s all blurting, blunt-force horror, oogly-boogly keyboard shriek and pant-pissing threats and obscenities into your brain. Mere words can’t much do it justice..." - Rock Sound Magazine

o "Somewhere in between noise, metal, and avant-jazz lies Child Abuse, the wildman trio from NYC." - Brooklyn Vegan

o "Child Abuse revels in the craft that underlies its work. Despite the band’s harsh approach, the presence of thought and structure quickly emerge out of the maelstrom. And the fact that the band is drawing from many different stylistic wells at once should entice listeners across a wide range of tastes—as long as those listeners aren't bound by the tribal provincialism that plagues so many scenes."

-------------------------------

In the unhinged tradition of Arab on Radar & Chinese Stars, Doomsday Student caterwauls like four refrigerators dropped down an elevator shaft. As drums push the music forward, spiraling guitars & crazed singing use the tools of rock to dismantle rock, to make an alarm of rock, to make simultaneously songs with hooks & riffs & all that shit & also these little splitting-off universes of paranoia & hysteria & the ecstasy only exploding people truly feel.

When I listen to A Walk Through Hysteria Park on headphones in public I find myself laughing in that way that makes people cross the street away from me, that makes my spine feel made of broken bottles & soaked band aids. And I am better this way. I am more awake, more able to be in the terror & jaggedness & joy of what it is to be. Doomsday Student is a wake up call to anyone who thinks the world merely works.

Doomsday Student’s second record, A Walk Through Hysteria Park, is being released on October 28, 2014. The music of Doomsday Student is played by Eric Paul (of Arab On Radar, The Chinese Stars), Stephen Mattos (of Arab On Radar, Athletic Automaton, & Chrome Jackson), Craig Kureck (of Arab On Radar, The Chinese Stars), & Paul Vieira (of The Chinese Stars). - Biography by Mathias Svalina, author of Destruction Myth, I Am A Very Successful Entrepreneur, and The Explosions.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o
"Bat shit. Terrifying speeds, Matching outfits. 4 guys just blasting it as hard as possible, and with the chops to make the magic happen all the while. Throbbing, writhing, undulating. The band. Their audience". - Boston Hassle

o "Doomsday Student is some of the loudest shit ever and an amazing take on post-hardcore. They wear all black, except for their orange shoes. Eric Paul is one of the most incredible frontman of any band ever, self-flagellating all over the stage, eyes bulging out of his shaven skull and screaming. They have really nice equipment, and they aren't just playing: every screaming guitar note and drum beat is not only turned up to 11, but maxed out on every channel". - Impose Magazine

o
"Doomsday Student is most of Arab on Radar and a member of the post-Arab on Radar band Chinese Stars. Now, I don’t know the whole back story, nor is it fair to dwell on it, but Arab on Radar reunited, broke up again, and then this band was formed minus one original member. There’s a new name and all-new material, but it’s impossible to ignore that this is essentially the new Arab on Radar. So for those of us who fondly remember that band and their cathartic live performances, the main question is how does Doomsday Student measure up? I am happy to report that they are every bit as great. None of the energy is missing". - No-Core

o "Eric’s voice. It’s what makes the music more creepy than just aggressive. The creepiness is important. It’s hard to be tough and creepy at the same time. I'm not a tough guy and I don’t really like tough things. And these guys are making heavy, intense music that isn't masculine in the conventional sense. And it’s music that’s really sexual without being “sexy.” And it’s the kind of thing I love hearing at a party, but there’s no way you’d call it party music". - Dan Deacon - guest editor of Magnet Magazine

o "Like singer Eric Paul's other band, The Chinese Stars, Arab On Radar are just one of those bands that are purely addictive. When you first listen to either band you think that they must be absolutely bonkers and you are not sure what to make of it. It's not really experimental, nor straight forward and there is this weirdo element you just cannot shake. But once you have indulged in these Skin Graft acts more than once you cannot stop". - Berlin Craze

Tatsuya Yoshida: drums, percussion
Ryoko Ono: alto, baritone & soprano sax, flute

Recorded in Koenji & Nagoya
between December 2012 and August 2013

-------------------------------

Though he's renowned for his roles in Acid Mother's Temple and Zeni Geva and for leading the bands Koenjhyakkei and Koekyojinn, Tatsuya Yoshida always comes back to Ruins. Since 1985, Ruins has been Yoshida's primary musical outlet – always minimalist in instrumentation, but maximalist in compositional complexity. Ruins' first two decades were defined by it's drum / bass line-up, with Yoshida remaining as the band's constant, while RUINS' bass duties would change hands four times. The last, Sasashi Hisaki, departed in 2004.

Since then, Ruins has evolved into a one-man show, with Yoshida doing what at first seemed impossible, playing it all himself - as documented on SKiN GRAFT's 100th release “RUINS Alone”.

Beginning in 2006, Yoshida would occasionally fill the vacant second slot not with a bassist, but with alto saxophonist Ono Ryoko. Ono has become one of Japan's most in demand studio musicians, performing jazz, rock, funk, rhythm & blues and hip hop, as well as leading her own band, "Ryorchestra." Like Yoshida, she has created her a musical language all her own, using a "non-breath" circulation technique and multi-phonics to pursue endless, rich and complex sounds in a progressive and classical tradition.

In 2009, Mike Patton's Ipecac label issued Sax Ruins debut recording “Yawiquo”, which found Tatsuya and Ono reinterpreting many of Ruins classics with brass in place of bass.

Their new album “Blimmguass” is highlighted by an all-new composition commissioned by New York's brass band Asphalt Orchestra which premiered at the Lincoln Center in April of 2012. Where the Sax Ruins' first outing focused on short pieces, “Blimguass” expands it's reach to lengthier, meticulously orchestrated compositions, including RUINS classics like “Vrresto” and Bighead”, as well as improvised pieces which reflect the Sax Ruins Live experience.

Sax Ruins transforms Yoshida's compositions from heavy, nimble prog to dense, hyper-kinetic big band jazz, not entirely unlike Sonny Rollins sitting in with Magma and Carl Stalling on the Warner Bros. lot or Borbetomagus calculating a perfectly timed collision with Naked City.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o
"How do you describe Sax Ruins? Late-60s chase-scene music run through a blender? The soundtrack to an Hieronymus Bosch painting? Elevator music in a David Lynch dream sequence? A Jazz Holiday, if Benny Goodman had been raised on No Wave? Japanese avant-garde composer Tatsuya Yoshida packs more signature changes into a two-minute song than most artists can fit on an entire record. In saxaphonist Ono Ryoko he's found a performer capable of matching him turn-for-maniacal-turn, complementing his rapid-fire percussion with a chorus of screeches, wails and melodies from a variety of brass instruments. This is a mind-bogglingly complex work of pure musicianship, that is for all its impenetrability, surprisingly fun." - Tiny Mix Tapes

o
"What's most immediately apparent is how naturally the faithful transposition of these tunes from bass to sax changes them from heavy prog into mutated big-band jazz. These songs seem instantly at home in a jazz context, as if Yoshida was secretly channelling Mingus all along. Within this aesthetic, their wild transitions, melodic oddities and restless nature seem more natural, less coldly calculated to disorient – even if that is their ultimate effect. But if this is a jazz band, it's one from your most feverish dreams. This is gobsmacking stuff." - The Quietus

o "Ryoko's sax is rich with echoes of free-jazz masters Ornette Coleman and John Zorn — lots of intensely passionate links borne of bebop, highly focused high-register wails, and artfully-placed squeals and shrieks. Meanwhile, the harmonious, darting unison passages (massed, overdubbed saxophones) evoke Frank Zappa's jazziest instrumental works (think Hot Rats and The Grand Wazoo). Tightly arranged, droll-sounding horns borne upon furious, rapid-fire cadences that recall the Minutemen at their peak - but for the unconventionally minded, it's exhilarating. Clever and irreverent, sidestepping the stuffy, this-is-serious-stuff mindset that plagues some avant-garde music." - East Bay Express

o "Punk is theoretically about nonconformity and freedom, so it’s curious that much of it follows a common musical formula; there’s nothing nonconformist about playing three chords loud and fast while barking in monotone. On the other hand, much jazz is played with such independence and freedom, it’s curious that most of it inspires nothing more than head-bobbing and finger-snapping, instead of, say, a mosh pit. Enter Sax Ruins"

In honor of the band's 25th anniversary, SKiN GRAFT unearths "The Beatoffs White Album”, the lost debut LP from Strangulated Beatoffs.

"Today, I don’t think people can accurately understand the cultural void that was the suburban Midwest in the early 1980s. No internet. No email. No cell phones. No social networking. Shit, there wasn’t even cable in 1983."
- Joe / Last Days Of Man On Earth

In 1984, Fritz Noble was performing in “White Suburban Youth” the faster, snottier act that would later evolve into Ultraman, St. Louis most commercially viable punk-rock band. Meanwhile guitarist Stan Seitrich and vocalist Mike Doskocil formed Drunks With Guns in opposition to the fast-louder-faster punk mantra and slowed the whole works down to a crawl, driving three chords into a primal relentless pound, years before the Melvins, Mudhoney and Sub Pop took the sound to the bank.

Drunks With Guns imploded in 1987 and Seitrich teamed with Noble to form Strangulated Beatoffs, picking up where Drunks left off. The Beatoffs would drive the riff to its logical extreme starting with their debut 7” single “Shake Your Dick”, ultimately reducing their music even further on the “Days of Our Lives” LP, and then refining their sound by devolving into a series of loops as on their breakthrough “self-titled” album also known as “Beating Off All Over The World”.

But “Days Of Our Lives” was not the Strangulated Beatoffs true first LP. In 1988, the Beatoffs embarked on recoding their debut LP, consisting entirely of Beatles covers. Tapes of the session were lost and Chopper Records, the label responsible for releasing the Drunks With Guns LP, was able to salvage four of the songs which appeared as the band's second 7”, “The Beatoffs”.

Now, a quarter century after it was recorded, Strangulated Beatoffs debut long-player has surfaced, bathed in tape-hiss, beer and tongue-in-cheek misanthropy. While some songs would be at home on Sub Pop a few years later, others anticipate the sound Drag City became renowned for in the 90's. Beatles standards like “You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) fit shockingly well into the Beatoffs' oeuvre, while songs like “Norwegian Wood”, “Ticket To Ride” and “Don't Let Me Down” take on new layers of meaning under the Beatoffs watch - and their cover of George Harrisions' “Savoy Truffle” sounds like a lost Drunks With Guns track with a tanging snare, vitriolic vocals and Seitrich's head-crushing sludge guitar.

Recorded 1989 in St. Louis, Missouri.
All songs performed by Stan Seitrich and Fritz Noble Additional musicians: Jim Broyles (bass on Don’t Let Me Down)Wings Schwarz (additional vocals). Mastered by Mark Richardson in 2013. All Songs written by J. Lennon and P. McCartneyexcept Savoy Truffle by G. Harrison

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o Here are a pair of musicians, Stan Seitrich and Fritz Noble, who have made a career out of living at home with their mothers, smoking pot, and playing hockey, while getting together at odd intervals to play around with guitars, samples and percussion loops. - Last FM

o
Tom Smith writes: "From an early draft of a review of 1998’s brilliant "Strangulated Beatoffs": Dignity is the enemy. At least of the "rock" part of rock (and "rock" for this humble truth serum guzzler encompasses every extant sonic particle -- from Anthony Braxton’s time-compressed home recordings of the turbid fizz of a terrarium lamp to those dusty Menudo posters you’ve lodged between your Air and Gomez albums). And you can just tell that Stan Seitrich and his worm-riddled compatriots in Strangulated Beatoffs bid a not-too-weepy adieu to dignity a long, long time ago. They’re braver than you, you see." - Blastitude

o
Not many bands manage to perform live once in ten years, and then entertain their audience with a video tape of dancing monkeys for two thirds of the show, and retain their fanbase. Yet, this and other similar stunts seem to have the adverse effect in Strangulated Beatoffs’ case. - Last Sigh

Long Hair In Three Stages is the debut album from Chicago's US Maple. The one that “Rocks”. Some history: US Maple's beginnings strike in Chicago, early 1995. Al Johnson and Mark Shippy (formerly of Shorty) and Todd Rittmann and Pat Samson (fresh out of The Mercury Players) meet at the corner of Grand and Western Avenues to devise a working method to reorganize rock and roll, while keeping what the members feel are its key core elements. Practice ensues. Shows are performed and initially, audiences are polarized throughout America. Europe is more understanding.

“Long Hair In Three Stages” was recorded in 1995 by Jim O'Rourke at Solid Sound Studios in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This was Jim's first legitimate recording session with a rock band, and he had a cold. Today, the ex-pat O'Rourke is an esteemed and highly sought after producer. The recording was originally released on both CD and vinyl formats, the latter packaged in handmade aluminum jackets. This edition of 1000 LPs sold out during its first week of release. Today it is a rare, collector's item, fetching ridiculous prices (currently $2,469.99 on Amazon). This limited edition vinyl re-release will bring the price back down to earth for those who missed out the first time around.

Athletic Automaton formed following the implosion of Providence Rhode Islands' Arab On Radar, Comprised solely of AOR guitarist Stephen Mattos and ex Pellum 1-2-3 drummer Patrick Crump, the duo sported '70s basketball jerseys, headbands and uncomfortably snug gym shorts - and came out playing a sci-fi take on Sabbath/Stooge sludge filtered through no-wave knee socks.

The band released two albums on Skin Graft Records “A Journey Through Roman's Empire” and a collaborative LP with Montreal's AIDS Wolf. This re-issue of their long out of print first album includes two never before released recordings and features Six Finger Satellite's J Ryan on vocals for three tracks. Today the heavy dissonance first laid down by Athletic Automaton lives on through Stephen Mattos' solo “band” Chrome Jackson, who's debut CD “Chrome Forest” is also available through Skin Graft Records.

"Athletic Automaton's debut full-length is making my palms (and ears) sweat as we speak. Of the bands that have splintered out of the Providence, Rhode Island, implosion that was agro-fuck pukes Arab on Radar's demise, Athletic Automaton rules my world the most, rocking a sick dynamic that is all about sustain and twisting your mind and expectations past the breaking point. Their riffs and grooves are minimal, the lyrics occasional, and the tension they bend a most welcome constant." - Skyscraper Magazine

o "Riffs repeat, the drums steady rumble, and the whole mess on AA's obstinately single-minded debut 5 Days in Africa is a Dodgeball-smirking wink at tectonic-plate-shifting Richter-scale madness." - City Paper

Powerful and cathartic, ARAB ON RADAR were a unique and unprecedented brand of psycho-neurological terrorism.

The strain introduced on "Soak The Saddle" is the most dangerous: free-er, alive and unrooted, any semblance to daddy's Rock n' Roll is long gone. Arab On Radar generate more energy and more hysteria than any band you've ever heard. Listeners have been known to have SEIZURES, HEART ATTACKS and HEIGHTENED STATES OF SEXUAL AROUSAL upon repeated listens. "Soak The Saddle" is where it all came together – proceed with caution.

This is no joke. This band will infect you.

Cliff Notes:
o Arab On Radar's original line up disbanded in 2002 and reformed in 2010 for select live dates.
o Currently 3/4ths of the band are carrying on as Doomsday Student.
o Includes members of Made In Mexico, Athletic Automaton, Chrome Jackson and The Chinese Stars
o New CD issue Manufactured on demand. Limited quantities available on colored vinyl with metallic ink screen printed silk-screened sleeves..

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o With 1999's "Rough Day At The Orifice", Arab On Radar seemed incapable of sinking any lower (thats a compliment). But as "Soak The Saddle" proves, that isn't the case. "Produced" in near defiance of fidelity by the Flying Luttenbachers' Weasel Walter, Soak The Saddle is AOR's crowning achievement: 19 minutes of trebly, cum soaked horror that captures all of
claustrophobia and wanton violence of the band's live set. - Magnet

o While many of today's rockers preach the tired "music is my only release" rhetoric, the men of Arab On Radar would rather feed you your teeth than say it. - Alternative Press

o Arab On Radar should be the most popular band in the world.
- - Arab On Radar will never be the most popular band in the world. - Slender

- Riverfront Times: Best Of St. Louis

"Damning with Faint Praise" is the second full length release from Yowie. This album surpasses the girth and intensity of their debut, "Cryptooology," an album that few have learned to decipher (or pronounce). "Damning with Faint Praise" moves through an array of multidimensional shifting structures, while inexplicably maintaining cohesion, and even, yes, grooves.

"The climax of rock music. This is outsider music for our entire dimension. No band has had this sort of vision since Beefheart marinaded us with tales of Big Joan's anatomy. In the dozens of times I've listened to this album I've never heard the same album twice." - Loving Peter Cetera

-------------------------------

Chicago's Lovely Little Girls focus on the details; that bit of flab hanging over a waistband, those ill-fitting shoes that carve deeper with each step and that slight underbite - teetering between the lovely and the repugnant.

Lovely Little Girls are an avant-rock band directed by artist Gregory Jacobsen and bassist Alex Perkolup. Using Jacobsen's grotesque paintings as a starting point, Lovely Little Girls construct theatrical No-Wave suites that morph from of-kilter dance anthems to punishing and ridiculous progressive rock. Simple musical motifs quickly deform into charges of odd harmony and tangled polyrhythms, punctuated by syllable-stuffed cut-and-paste prose; and grounded in a love for catchy melodies – a gravy-encrusted GLEE for the regressive metal and free jazz set.

With “Cleaning the Filth From a Delicate Frame” the distressingly low-cut of Lovely Little Girls' jib has reached new heights. The band's latest recording and first for Skin Graft Records is a linear suite of songs that spin an abstract tale of birth, incompetent sex, over-ripe food and undignified death. Using multiple singers and different narrative voices, this is Lovely Little Girls' most cohesive work yet – a seven stage Théâtre de l'Absurde concept record.

The visual does aural.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o
"The drawings and paintings of Chicago artist Gregory Jacobsen aren't exactly easy to look at: his favorite subject is body horror, and he loves to combine bright, kid-friendly colors with beautifully rendered deformities and mutilations and revolting masses of flesh and hair and membrane. Since 2001 Jacobsen has also had a band, Lovely Little Girls, and it's a total package: challenging, dissonant, ever-changing experimental rock, conceptually linked songs, and ambitious themed stage productions that often involve makeup, prosthetics, partial nudity, and large casts of players. His longtime collaborator, bassist Alex Perkolup (also of Cheer-Accident), writes most of the songs; Jacobsen animates their lyrics with his abject, frenzied singing and grotesque, even violent stage presence. - Monica Kendrick, Chicago Reader

o
Lovely Little Girls' crazed crossbreeding of Brechtian narrative menace and Zappa/zuehl theatrics was a bracing rejoinder to just about anything you'd care to name... - Tom Smith of To Live & Shave in LA

o
To look at one of Gregory Jacobsen's paintings is to view a world of oozing fluid, hilarious meat, and demented animals. Set that vision to music and you get Lovely Little Girls, the band Jacobsen fronts. LLG walks a path of which the foundation is dada, psychedelics, and Beefheart, one that has been trod by Butthole Surfers, Tragic Mulatto, and Idiot Flesh. - Scott Soriano, Z-Gun zine

o
"What makes Lovely Little Girls quite unique is the care for complex arrangements, creating quirky prog-no wave hybrids that are impressive psychodramas of melodic detours and anguished explosions, full of theatrical uneasiness. - Chain D.L.K

Recorded and Engineered by Colin Marston
at Menegroth: The Thousand Caves, Queens, New York
Mastered by Weasel Walter

-------------------------------

Nick Sakes boasts one of those impeccable underground-rock track records. His discography to date encompasses three brilliant, insular projects: prog-minded post-hardcore nightmare merchants Dazzling Killmen, cryptic art-punk psychos Colossamite and the skewed yet surprisingly tuneful Sicbay. Now, more than two decades on from Sakes's recording debut, comes the part where we inform you that the guitarist/shrieker has "matured," and is prepping his first singer-songwriter record or somesuch. Except that's entirely false; Sakes's latest band, Xaddax-- a duo with drummer Chrissy Rossettie -- is as challenging and gloriously cathartic as anything he's done to date.

Sakes and Rossettie met at Chicago's Fireside Bowl back in 2001, when Sicbay shared a bill with Rossettie's former band, the head-spinning neo–No Wave outfit My Name Is Rar-Rar. Flash forward to '09, when Sakes (then living in Minneapolis) and the Brooklyn-based Rossettie reconnected online and struck up a long-distance romance. Soon Sakes headed east, and within a few months, the pair had hatched a new musical entity, named Xaddax in honor of their shared love of "palindromes and pointy letters." A flurry of live shows commenced.

Counterclockwork, the debut Xaddax release is a must-hear for any Nick Sakes fan, but what's most impressive about the 25-minute LP is the way it places his trademark livid howl in an entirely new context. Working with a mad-scientist electroacoustic drum set-up -- huge toms, no cymbals, various sample-triggering pads and a foot-controlled synth pedal -- Rossettie pounds out lurching math-disco rhythms, haloed in scuzzy sci-fi FX. Sakes responds with perversely anthemic riffs and mantra-like shouts, resulting in a kind of hot-wired hardcore -- like Devo gone nastily dystopic. In a sense, Counterclockwork sounds like nothing Nick Sakes has ever done, but the record's spirit -- venemous aggression combined with bold ingenuity -- fulfills every promise of one of the most fiercely uncompromising discographies in contemporary American music.

In advance of the XADDAX final exam, here are two excellent primers:

o Hank Shteamer has taken some time out from his busy schedule at Time Out NY to pen “Sums of Parts: Nick Sakes from DAZZLING KILLMEN to XADDAX” at DARK FORCES SWING BLIND PUNCHES

o And here is an invaluable interview with Chrissy Rossettie, conducted by HEY DRUMMER, YOU RULE!

XADDAX's "Counterclockwork"
releases this May.

A Summer European Tour is in the works for July.

o
"Energetic & vital!" - KK Null / Zeni Geva

o
"There is a certain category of well-known DIY-rock lifer who's been around forever and has been in a long string of bands. Folks like Ian MacKaye, Ben Weasel, Dave Pajo, Walter Schreifels, Mick Barr - even icons like Robert Pollard or Kathleen Hanna fit in this general classification. But if anyone's keeping some sort of master ledger of these sorts of folks and Nick Sakes Dazzling Killmen, Colossamite, Sicbay and now XADDAX), isn't on it, that list is incomplete. In terms of combining raw aggression with unconventional yet totally memorable form, Nick Sakes is one of the most potent musicians I've ever heard.

Chrissy Rossettie plays a hot-wired electroacoustic kit, which she wields like a post-industrial orchestra. Since there are only two members of XADDAX, the division-of-labor vibe is right in front of your face: What Rossettie brings to the table... as drummer and full-spectrum sound generator—is an inspired short-circuiting-cyborg vibe." - Dark Forces

o "Face Of Collapse" the debut album by Xaddax frontman Nick Sakes band Dazzling Killmen, was declared the top heavy album of the 90's by Alternative Press. "Sounds like Dave Bruebeck's Time Out played through Carcass' PA system."

A Jumper's Handbook is the debut album by DOOMSDAY STUDENT. Doomsday Student's bio reads as follows:

You know who these men are.

They have been other men.

Who they were before does not matter. What matters most is who they are now. These men, with two menacing guitars, violent drums, and wild words will fill that void in you. They will build bunkers out of your bones. They will make weapons out of your teeth. They will drink your tears and feed on your meat.

All of this will be outlined, annotated and acted upon in "A Jumper's Handbook", the debut album by DOOMSDAY STUDENT. DOOMSDAY STUDENT teams three quarters of Arab On Radar with three quarters Chinese Stars and a pinch of Athletic Automaton and Chrome Jackson for decidedly devastating results.

DOOMSDAY STUDENT are: Eric Paul - vocals, Stephen Mattos - guitar, Paul Vieira - guitar, Craig Kureck - drums

Chrome Jackson
is a steely-gray, hard metal of lustrous sound-scrapes and bruises.

Poked, plucked and prodded to a perennial high polish, Chrome Jackson's debut album “Chrome Forest” drags listeners knuckle-first through a corrosive wilderness of winding vascular tissues, interwoven to form a hard psyche.

Filled with innovative guitar wrangling and atonal six-string scrambling, ”Chrome Forest's” towering electro-plated frondescence has given way to reveal a dense, chromium-infused understory of infinite realms - a web of overgrown tangles and knots, spaghetti strung in service to a photosynthetic ecosystem out of control.

The roots run deep.

Chrome Forest has been cultivated by Stephen Mattos, formerly of Arab On Radar and Athletic Automaton. In addition to Chrome Jackson, he is presently a member of Doomsday Student.

Yoshida Tatsuya / Alone

SKiN GRAFT Records
is proud to announce our 100th release, the debut album from RUINS ALONE.

Formed by drummer / vocalist Yoshida Tatsuya in 1985, RUINS played two rehearsals as a drum and bass duo before attempting to add a guitarist to fill out their sound. After a handful of rehearsals as a trio, the band abandoned the guitar and chose to jettison forward as a two piece. For nearly 20 years, Yoshida would remain the guiding force behind the band, while RUINS' bass duties would change hands four times.

The visceral energy of RUINS early years are chronicled on the "1986- 1992"collection and document the evolution of RUINS hardcore progressive rock sound. In 1995 bassist Sasaki Hisahi joined Yoshida, and the new duo made their debut on the "Refusal Fossil" album. Countless tours and numerous recordings would follow. "Tzomborgha" released in 2002 by Ipecac Records would be their last full length album - in 2004 Hisahi retired from the band.

In 2005, RUINS unveiled one last song, "Gwodhunqa", for a SKiN GRAFT / RELAPSE Records co-release - a split 7" and comic set with the band HIGH ON FIRE. In the summer of that year, Yoshida took on the task of performing the music of RUINS solo, while performing with a different guest bass player in each city, embarking on the "Bassist Wanted Tour".

From this point on, Yoshida would continue RUINS as a one-man act, touring as RUINS Alone and, with bassist Sasaki Hisahi, issuing remixed & remastered editions of their albums "Vrresto", Pallaschtom" and "Refusal Fossil". During this time, Yoshida also re-energized his other bands, KOENJIHYAKKEI and KOREKYOJINN - - and RUINS Alone was chosen by Matt Groening to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties in May 2010 in Minehead, England.

It's been nearly 10 years since the last RUINS album was released. Now, having traveled the world time and time again, refining RUINS for the 21st century, Yoshida is ready to release the debut album from RUINS Alone, 20 tracks - plus three bonus tracks (included on the CD and as a free download in the LP), featuring all new compositions, as well as new recordings of classic RUINS songs sporting new arrangements.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------

o Ruins Alone is a direct interface between Tatsuya's brain and his drumsticks. You could get 15 rock records out of one Ruins Alone performance. - Life Is Noise

Ruins brilliantly structured compositions, in songs that range in length from less than a minute, to nearly seven minutes, are what make (the band) a constantly engaging and undeniably compulsive listening experience. The simple technical prowess amazes.- Popmatters

The opener wastes no time in burning down all bridges to sanity: "Outburn" is at once the greatest-ever hardcore punk song not to protest anything or even feature real words in the lyrics, and a public service announcement for ADD awareness. The main riff is as stubbornly assured as anything Bad Brains put to wax, and the lest you get bored during its eight seconds, another wild-ass riff is there to take its place, and again and again. - Pitchfork

o “Fiendish and crazed, Ruins explore string-popping ideas only to degenerate into complex whirlpools of distortion, then regroup into a new version of their original idea with surprising grace. Ruins grow on you like a cancerous cell, and are killer. - CMJ

o ”(RUINS) wed histrionic vocals like Magma's Christian Vander in a tourettic fit to seething hardcore re-interpretations of Udu Wudu-era Magma's motion, dicing up time signatures like a musical hibachi chef on Benzedrine. The peaks of gibbering lunacy Ruins occasionally achieve beggar disbelief... a definite A- ticket ride. - Alternative Press

Philadelphia's SATANIZED was made flesh with their first live performance on the day of our Lord 06.06.06. Renowned for delivering highly intense, aberrantly convoluted, and theatrically bizarre live performances, the band has steadily conjured scathing frequencies and heavy rhythms that have left listeners trembling, pummeled and sliced - ready for sacrifice. Amid the assault, freakish moments of high musical complexity and lyrical depravity always ensure a clean kill.

Authors at a loss for words have related SATANIZED's forbidden fruit as "forward looking avant metal (?)" that simultaneously harkens back to the heavy mindfuck throb of the Jesus Lizard and the disjunct, outside-the-groove damage inflicted by Colossamite, but the cauldron's ingredients are not so easily identified, much less digested. SATANIZED push into tenebrous spaces previously unheard – a black light shining into a den of darkness.

Following their split 7” with AIDS Wolf and extensive touring, SATANIZED make their full length SKiN GRAFT Records debut with “Technical Virginity”. SATANIZED is the end times: a dense, flinty, and anomalous antidote for modern hyperreality; ritually sewing your seeds of destruction, prick by prick.

PRESS QUOTES:

o "People claiming to have been saved by God tend to recount feelings of profound peace and warmth, a calming light, and a sense of life’s greater purpose. The opposite is true when you get Satanized..." - Onion AV Club

o SATANIZED embraces the lurching menace pioneered by ruthless ’90s bands such as Colossamite. The Philly group’s demented noise rock feels assaultive on every level—no small feat in these been-there-done-that times." - Time Out New York

o "My ears are bleeding ... but I don't want to stop listening to this gross and futuristic shredfest. This totally weird band is a terrifying and truly original blend of primitive and disgusting sludge punk aesthetics and really advanced musical content. -Not to mention that I saw them play once and there were strobe lights and capes and maybe even a knife? i can't wait to hear what comes from these creeps in the future!" - Verboser

o" "If noise-punk is an energy, then Satanized is a nuclear power plant. More like an atomic holocaust actually. Mixing No Wave with hardcore elements, this Philly four-piece created such an ear-deafening racket, it was easy to overlook the shape-shifting, almost mechanical-like flow to the sound. Abrasive guitars, bass-heavy attack, pummeling drums, and vocals thick with rage, yet structured and avant-garde enough to offer more than just a muddied assault. It’s pretty clear that Satanized don’t sugarcoat anything. This crowd should happily rejoice they didn't’t suffer permanent hearing loss." - Lonely Vagabond

o "SATANIZED, as the name might suggest, make music that is confrontational and completely uncompromising. The guitars rain and slither down in jagged sheets of pure treble, backed by heavy-hitting, stop-start rhythms and a crazed vocal attack not for the squeamish. Despite all this (or maybe because of it), SATANIZED is one of the most engaging bands of their type, combining the structure and ferocity of more recent thrash acts with the pure noise nihilism of New York's seemingly forgotten "no wave" scene. As with any artist having been involved with Badmaster Records, one can expect a full-out assault, and that's exactly what SATANIZED delivers (though not without a sense of humor, as the track "Purple Pickle" illustrates)." - The Deli Philadelphia

o "The brutal uncompromising philly wrecking crew satanized espouses 'positive misanthropy' with its infamous explosive live shows and intense, punishing, mind-bending noise-rock, pushing listeners through numerous twists and turns in its dark sonic labyrinth." - The Chattanooga Pulse

No-Core's M*P* Lockwood on the philosophy of "Pre-____" as championed by Tom Smith of To Live and Shave in L.A.: "Post-____" music styles are always more cerebral, less physical, more “informed” and less “inspired.” See for example post-punk, post-hardcore, and (your best example) post-rock.

“Pre-” music styles are all about original, instinctive expression.

In the band PRE, you’ve got 2 super-bouncy bass guitars leading things, plenty of punk speed, and yelped lyrics that sound like a looser version of Melt-Banana’s Yasuko. This music is definitely more about physicalism than intellectualism.
.........

It's been nearly two years since the release of PRE's second album “Hope Freaks”. Since then, the boys of PRE have continued to play hooky with their band Male Bonding over at Sub Pop, while vocalist Exceedingly Good Keex has kept busy with her band Comanechi, and a multitude of extra curricular activities including a stint in 4ADs Big Pink and a collaboration with Richard Kern. Fans of London's no wave titans had begun to fear that they'd heard the last of PRE, but this September, all fears can be put to rest as the band unleashes their long-rumored, but previously unconfirmed "Third Album".

Renowned for their concise, rapid fire, sugar high approach to song-writing, PRE return with five songs (laid down with "Hope Freaks" producer extraordinaire Steve Albini) - for the first ever 7" vinyl "LP" in history. In addition to these five new songs, the band has assembled eight additional rare and unreleased tracks for a special extended edition CD.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------
o “It can be hard to stand out among the hundreds of bands that play the annual CMJ Festival, so the hallucinogenic noise-smiths in PRE left it ALL on the floor." - Spin

o This is music dedicated to fast satisfaction; it is the fizz and the caffeine of a thirty-two ounce energy drink. In fact, Hope Freaks propelled me on my last run far and beyond my typical three miles, and into the outer limits of an eight-mile excursion that I thought was really only possible by statuesque people who wear those hydration fanny-packs. (Of course, I am now nursing shin splints, which I fully blame Pre for.) Pre managed, after all, to do something that not many noise acts are capable of: they’re stuck in my head, even as I sit on the couch and ice my shins.” - Feminist Review

o “If Pre are worried about anything in particular — and it doesn't’t seem likely — it’s letting that gut-level thrill die. With most tracks clocking under two minutes (and the album itself clocking in at fewer than 20), Hope Freaks is impeccably concise, as though recognizing that at any greater length it might not be able to sustain its continual in-the-red urgency, that the thrill might lessen. Hope Freaks is a desperately cynical album that nevertheless contains some of the most electrifying noise rock released this year.” - Tiny Mix Tapes

o ”The tracks on Hope Freaks are so feverishly, intensely immediate that you get the distinct impression you're host to some epic schizophrenic opera. When, really, you're on Track 5. But it sure as hell feels like you never left Track 1. Which is probably a good thing. Anybody who remembers the Ramones, with any degree of affinity, knows that they pioneered a rapid-fire approach to song structure that clocked in at under three minutes and, in most cases, usually far less. That same waste-no-time snatch-it-fast style is present here and works just as effectively.” – Katori Magazine

KOENJIHYAKKEI
"Live at Koenji High" MOD DVD

cat #: GR104DVD / barcode: 647216610496

LINE UP:
-------------------------------
Yoshida Tatsuya / Drums, Vocal
Sakamoto Kengo / Bass, Vocal
Komori Keiko / Soprano Sax
Yabuki Taku / Keyboards
AH / Vocals

-------------------------------

For the uninitiated, imagine Yoshida Tatsuya's drum and bass punk-prog-metal duo RUINS, preaching the one true interplanetary gospel - an overcharged jazz fusion opera emboldened by reeds, keyboards and a soaring front-woman speaking in somersaulting tongues.

That still doesn't come close.

“Live at Koenji High” is a live document of a band that is indescribable - performing at home - fresh off of their European tour, and with new members AH on vocals and Yabuki Taku on keyboards. Filmed with multiple cameras and excellent sound, "Live at Koenji High" is the bare bones - no interview clips – no special features – no mysteries revealed - just Koenjihyakkei live on stage.

“Towers over most modern progressive rock because of an attention to detail and almost overwhelming force of conviction. No irony here: this rocks with the teeth and heart to cut through scenes and the "overground" like a knife.” - Pitchfork

Previously available only in a limited pressing in Japan, “Live at Koenji High” includes two new songs, unavailable anywhere else and comes packaged in a standard DVD case with all new, exclusive cover art. All Region NTSC DVD – plays worldwide.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------
o On the Japan import DVD: Having seen this tour, this perfectly encapsulates just what makes this group so wild and so fun. This is *the* DVD to own. As usual, this is a wild race into Zeuhl territory, with all the throbbing bass, wild, Vander-inspired drumming, & Kobaian-via-Japan singing you could hope for.” - Wayside Music

o “Koenjihyakkei is a prog band that defies the criticisms of people who don’t like prog. Where the critic complains that prog is long-winded, meandering, and pretentious, Koenji is brisk, tightly arranged, and, in its own way, pleased to be entertaining, - and even catchy. For all its musical experiments, the album has the simple appeal of a potboiler novel: it picks up a flag of roaring melodrama and flourishes it rampantly, in triumph..” - Popmatters

o ”Creative in the extreme, it is a crime we haven’t had this over here sooner. Sublime prog pop with classical overtones, and the wonderfully inventive rhythm section keeps everything on the right side of barking. This is something to be absorbed, enjoyed and revered. Now, to check out the rest of their back catalogue.” - Subba-Cultacha

KOREKYOJINN
"Tundra" MOD CD

cat #: GR102CD / barcode: 647216610229

LINE UP:
-------------------------------
Yoshida Tatsuya / Drums
Nasuno Mitsuru / Bass
Kido Natsuki / Guitars

-------------------------------

Yoshida Tatsuya has proven himself a major force many times over in Japan's contemporary music scene. He is the founder of Ruins and Koenjihyakkei, a member of Zeni Geva and has been cited as "[the] indisputable master drummer of the Japanese underground" by John Zorn. In Korekyojinn (alternately spelled Korekyojin), Yoshida joins Bondage Fruit's guitar wizard Kido Natsuki and Ground Zero's legendary bassist Nasuno Mitsuru to demonstrate the limitless potential of the “power trio”.

The band first formed in 1999, and while the style is recognizable to fans of Yoshida's other acts, Korekyojinn has carved out a sound all its own. The band dance on razors, are sharp as a tack - and their overwhelming ability, jettisons them into the outer limits - where progressive rock and contemporary jazz collide into a breathtaking, futuristic, hard rock funk. “Tundra” is Korekyojinn's latest, greatest and first release on Skin Graft Records.

--------------------------------------
SELLING POINTS:

--------------------------------------

o Recommended if you like: Ruins, Koenjihyakkei, Yes, Massacre, Lightning Bolt
o Yoshida Tatsuya has a tremendous following as the leader of Koenjihyakkei and Ruins
- and as a player in renowned bands such as Zeni Geva, Acid Mothers Temple and Painkiller.
o Unites three of Japan's most accomplished performers from acts such as Ruins, Ground Zero and Bondage Fruit.

--------------------------------------
PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------
o “...could school any number of modern "brutal prog" acts on how to string together 12 disparate sections into a 5-minute tune and not have it come out a) disorganized, b) disjointed or c) too fucking insane to listen to." - Pitchfork

o “12 out of 13. "Tundra" conjures up some mind bogglingly complex moments on and some of the riffs sound shockingly difficult to play; their mathy prog sound is also backed by some really solid Classic Rock moments with chunky guitars giving a more meaty edge. This is hardly easy listening, however these are brilliantly played pieces, which you just can't turn off once you start listening. If you appreciate prog, math or even classic rock - or are just looking to hear something a bit different Korekyojinn are sure to impress.” - Room Thirteen

o ”An essential collaboration between three of the best players on the Japanese progressive rock scene." - Prog Archives

Japan's drum(s) and bass duo RUINS are renowned around the globe for their mindbendingly fast and complex hyper-progressive rock onslaught. Ruins are masters of quick-change, stop/start tempos, time-signatures and textures. Hardcore, psych, speed metal, art rock, funk- all are elements incorporated into their music, but what comes out is irrefutably original. Unquestionably RUINS.

On "1986-1992", we unearth the band's earliest material, much of which is long out of print, never heard by the bands' "western audiences". Ruins founder Yoshida Tatsuya has extensively remixed and remastered 23 songs from the bands first seven years; including their debut 7", the cut from the NG II compilation, tracks from the first 12" EP, selections from their debut LP, and remixed ?best of? tracks from the Stonehenge and Burning Stone LP's. This is the essential slice of Ruins for the longtime fan or virgin eared enthusiast!.

PRESS QUOTES:

--------------------------------------
o The opener wastes no time in burning down all bridges to sanity: "Outburn" is at once the greatest-ever hardcore punk song not to protest anything or even feature real words in the lyrics, and a public service announcement for ADD awareness.

GAY BEAST
"To Smithereens" LP / MOD CD

LINE UP:

Isaac Rotto / Guitar
Daniel Luedtke / Keyboards, Sax, Vocals
Angela Gerend / Drums, Electronics

-------------------------------

Gay Beast formed mid-2005 during a fit of anxiety towards Midwestern passive aggression and as an attempt to make music that was queer in composition and aesthetic. Wielding a battery of drums, scraped and hammered guitars, chanted vocals, retro-future synths, saxophone, and other electronics, the trio (Angela Gerend, Daniel Luedtke, Isaac Rotto) build songs on grounds that adjoin complexity and catchiness, a space where both abrasion and tunefulness inhabit.

With releases on DNT, Gilgongo, and Skin Graft, Gay Beast have garnered a reputation for uniqueness on the rock fringe, their sound being both too weird for the stereotype of a “gay band” and “too gay” for the noise-rock set. Upon examination of the influence blender, one finds remnants of Devo, Captain Beefheart, equatorial pop-rock from the 60s and 70s, no wave, and feminist theory. This concoction, delivered via Gay Beast’s unique political approach to composition, is explored heavily on their third album “To Smithereens”, appearing on Skin Graft Records.

o “Thundering out of the basements of Minneapolis, Gay Beast brings its wide-eyed, brutal sound . . . The group's latest record, ‘Second Wave,’ is full of erratic shifts in time signature, pleading yelps over razor-sharp eight-bit keyboards, and pounding tribal percussion. Although not for the faint of heart, this frenetic trio's music is miraculously danceable--the perfect soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic discotheque.”
- New Yorker

o “It's hard to put guitar/synth/drums trio Gay Beast into a neat little genre box, as they make some seriously, awesomely weird noise . . . They look and sound like something new. That's not easy. Hell, in this day and age of recycled everything, doing something different or new is almost impossible. They should have called themselves the Gay Pioneers. Or the Queer Pathfinders.”
- Portland Mercury

o ”Bands like Gay Beast used to get me excited, but none have had such a gloriously bent and creative batch of songs to match up with the innovation.”
– Doug Mosurak / Dusted Magazine

o “Think Health, think Lovely Little Girls, think DNA. But don't think too hard. It wouldn't be right.”
- Sound & Fury Records

o “Gay Beast are one of the few bands I've seen around that are seriously challenging the form and content of modern rock music. Their compositions and execution are ambitious and effective. A truly unique and weird band.”

AIDS WOLF
"March To The Sea" LP / CD

cat #: GR99LP / barcode: 647216609919
cat #: GR99CD / barcode: 647216609926

The landscape is all ears and the distance is deafening.

With a new LP (their third), and an ever-renewable call to action, AIDS Wolf dribble and smear, smudge and sweep - spilling across the plains.

AIDS Wolf March To The Sea.

o First LP pressing on Colored Vinyl.
o Recorded by David Bryant in The Pines, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
o Mastered by Weasel Walter in Hell, USA.
o Very Friendly written by Throbbing Gristle.
o Cover Art by Seripop.
o Released by SKiN GRAFT Records.

AIDS Wolf was birthed into the heady days of Montreal’s millennial music scene. Yannick Desranleau (aka Hiroshima Thunder)  and Chloe Lum began the band in 2003. Unlike most of the local units finding fame out in the world beyond Quebec, AIDS Wolf pushed an abrasive, unforgiving and rather unwieldy sound around North America in a battered van.

AIDS Wolf has formalized its sound into a tight construction relying on intentional dissonance, polyrhythms and disjunctive compositional forms. The band takes its cues from “classic” New York No Wave, 90’s Midwestern No Wave, vegan cooking, 70’s proto-punk, Beefheartian modes, Ville-Marie school of white elephant architecture, Literature, www.crwflags.com, post-war continental modern composition and their unrivaled network of friends and acquaintances the world over.

PRESS QUOTES:
o Rock can still sound threatening. - Popmatters
o A brutally beautiful sound that has caught the kids' pants on fire. - Hour
o An amazing, essential, noisy mess. - CMJ
o AIDS Wolf are a no wave sonic demolition squad cartwheeling on the edge of the noise-rock precipice. - Alternative Press

GAY BEAST
"Charm" 7" Vinyl Single

cat #: GR98-7 / barcode: 647216609872

"Charm" and "We Keep Our Victims Ready". Gay Beast's first new studio recordings since the release of their acclaimed "Second Wave" album. Previously only-available on tour, each copy sports hand silk-screened covers.

"Thundering out of the basements of Minneapolis, Gay Beast's latest record, 'Second Wave,' is full of erratic shifts in time signature, pleading yelps over razor-sharp eight-bit keyboards, and pounding tribal percussion. Although not for the faint of heart, this frenetic trio’s music is miraculously danceable—the perfect soundtrack for a post-apocalyptic discotheque.
- The New Yorker

This is like James Chance and Franz Ferdinand holding hands.
- KUCI 88.9 FM

Gay Beast are one of the few bands seriously challenging the form of modern rock music – that doesn’t make them a difficult listen though. Hard-boiled and jittering all over the place, yes, very busy, rushing off in ten directions at once, never abrasive though.
- Organ Magazine

I'm totally all gay over this band and I'm not shy about expressing it.
- Gumshoe Grove

As a listening experience, Second Wave is like hearing the children of outré music genres play in the sandbox of art. All they want you to do is the join them—and, based on the hypnotic, wholly unique sound presented by Gay Beast, who could resist one of the best records of the year?
- Minneapolis Fucking Rocks

"Second Wave" - it will bring great rewards upon many, many repeated listens. By the time you have the songs figured out, you will find that you've fallen in love with them. This ranks high as THE album most worth your hard-earned dollars.
- No-Core

Think of it this way: If Sonic Youth and Le Tigre got together and wrote songs for a messed up version of At the Drive-In, you may have Second Wave. Dancing to what sounds like a broken record has never been more fun.
- The Needle Drop

This is the kind of album that requires listening to marvel at the artistry on display.
- Citizen Dick

You could say Gay Beast are a combination of influences from the past, sure, like No Wave, prog rock, noise-rock, math rock... but these labels are so ill-defined themselves that all you're really saying about Gay Beast is that they are challenging, original, and experimental. This album pushes musical composition into the future. And t's "catchy." I've listened to this record tons of times, and get something new out of it every time. Prepare to have your mind blown open.
- End Of Irony

Gay Beast is the band that every experimental noise band tries to be.
- Verbicide Magazine
