AIDS WOLF At the farthest reaches of modernity, we still somehow pine for an aesthetic that borders on sociopathy. The badass has long brought this aesthetic principle forward, but barely manages to deliver it to us here in the 21st century. The badass, though common in the vernacular, hyperbolically applied wherever, has sadly gone the way of the fucking chucking spear. Clearly a distinction is necessary to distinguish real badassery from its overuse in language today if there is any hope of salvaging this treasured relic of our cultural past. SELLING POINTS: |

PRE Like it's predecessor, “Hope Freaks” weighs in at a lean twenty minutes. Every punch is packed, and with a master at the faders, you will feel the devil in all its detail. Each unhinged swing never fails to connect. Since forming in London three years ago, PRE has taken their spring-loaded live-show to the people. Two massive UK tours with The Gossip and stints with the likes of Health, The Mae Shi, Finally Punk and Mika Miko in the US has refined their footwork into a dizzying dance of precision instruments. A sold out performance at the Knitting Factory resulted in a two page spread in SPIN Magazine and the band's infamy lead to a bootleg vinyl release in Eastern Europe. Most recently, PRE embarked on yet another US tour, pummeling SXSW and the West Coast, and appeared alongside Yowie, Colossamite (Deerhoof) and Mule (P.W. Long) on SIDES 11-14, a double 7” and comic book collection inspired by AC/DC. And now; bare-knuckled, fist in hand with Skin Graft Records; PRE spring forward for round two - unprotected, unwavering - and with infectious left hooks guaranteed to leave listeners staggering. KOENJIHYAKKEI “Koenjihyakkei towers over most modern progressive rock because of an attention to detail and an overwhelming force of conviction. No irony here: this rocks with the teeth and heart to cut through the “scenes” and the "overground" like a knife. …Koenjihyakkei may go down as Tatsuya Yoshida’s greatest achievement: the most perfect fusion of straight prog, the avant-garde and hardcore punk. Amen.” - Pitchfork Finally available again, Skin Graft proudly presents Koenjihyakkei’s second album “Viva Koenji!!” to western listeners. With the original issue on Japan’s God Mountain label largely unheard and fetching enormous prices on the collector’s market, “Viva Koenji!!”, generally considered the band’s heaviest album, returns to print in a deluxe, remastered edition. Headed by vocalist / composer / drummer extraordinaire Yoshida Tatsuya (of the bass and drum duo RUINS), Koenjihyakkei boasts a listenership comprised of zuehl prog fans, no-wavers and adventurous music enthusiasts; and has proven itself the most exciting contemporary progressive rock act on the planet. RUINS Like their visual namesake, RUINS are colossal. Japan's drum(s) and bass duo RUINS are renowned around the globe for their mind-bendingly fast and complex hyper-progressive rock onslaught. Ruins are masters of quick-change, stop/start tempos, time signatures and textures. Hardcore, psych, speed metal, art rock, funk- all are elements incorporated into their music, but what comes out is irrefutably original. Unquestionably RUINS. Ruins formed in 1985 and along with fellow countrymen The Boredoms’ are Japan’s preeminent underground force. Their influence is heard in the music of Fantomas, Lightning Bolt and a generation of musical freakouts, but RUINS continue to evolve and lead the charge. Ruins have recorded with the likes of Derek Bailey and John Zorn, and have inherited the music constitution of avant-garde and progressive groups such as Magma, Frank Zappa, Henry Cow, and King Crimson but their overwhelming physical power jettisons them into another realm, beyond borders of genre, to find opened arms and dropped jaws not only within these esteemed circles, but also among hardcore punk enthusiasts and metal audiences craving speed, technical ability and razor sharp precision. Few, if any, bands can appeal equally to both Slayer fans and Debussy and Webern enthusiasts. In recent years, Tatsuya Yoshida has carried the RUINS mantle all on his own, as RUINS Alone, continuing to tour the world performing the uncanny vocalizations, psychedelic inventiveness, infectious melodies, improv spasticity, and thrashing workouts RUINS are renowned for. Previously only available overseas, Vrresto is available in a new edition, extensively remixed & remastered (and in some cases, re-recorded) by RUINS founder Tatsuya Yoshida at Magaibitsu Studios in Tokyo. Vrresto also includes two tracks newly sequenced into the album, making this the broadest RUINS release to date. PRESS QUOTES: TRACK LISTING: Preview MP3: Warrido |

Join us May 26th as the nuclear family explodes into a psychedelic mushroom cloud of writhing, urgent vocals set against the precise, premeditated clatter of guitar, drums and keys. A furious barrage of explosive and intricately composed drum(s) and bass (guitar), Ruins cover all stops between hardcore's hysteric intensity, metal's pummeling dynamics and the confounding inscription of progressive rock. No slack. No slop. Absolute masters of quick change, stop-start tempos and time-signatures, Ruins craft an unprecedented amalgam of originality, all sung in a peculiar language of their own invention. The first album to feature bassist Sasaki Hisashi, "Refusal Fossil (Special Edition)" resissues the long out of print "Refussal Fossil" full length, unquestionably the band's heaviest, rawest effort, plus five previously unreleased tracks, all remixed and remastered by the band's Yoshida Tatsuya (Koenjihyakkei). THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS "Destroy All Music Revisited" CD catalog #: GR85CD / barcode: 647216608523 Skin Graft Records proudly presents "DxAxMx Revisited", a fully remastered, extended edition of The Flying Luttenbachers' landmark 1995 album, "Destroy All Music". This special edition includes notorious drummer/multi-instrumentalist Weasel Walter and renowned jazz saxophonist Ken Vandermark, the innovative punk-jazz ensemble that first garnered the band widespread acclaim. Here the band is captured at the height of the internal struggles that would soon dissolve the quintet line-up. The end result is an unforgettable experience, a document of the most extreme energy level the line-up ever mustered on record. In addition to the 10 tracks featured on the original release, this comprehensive edition includes seven never-before-heard vintage recordings, all painstakingly remastered by bandleader Weasel Walter. "Destroy All Music Revisited" is 80 minutes of wild, unhinged cacophony, fusing fiery free jazz improvisation with modern post-punk/noise-rock structures. This is an integral part of Chicago's underground musical heritage, a milestone in adventurous jazz, and a key component of the neo-no wave movement. o Includes 7 additional tracks and fold-out retrospective booklet o "Destroy All Music" lets you continue to follow this incredible band's evolution from a freak-out jazz/spaz group to the conceptual beast of musical destruction that they are today.... SMOKES (BACK IN STOCK) "Talk To Your Kids About Gangs" CD catalog #: GR82CD / barcode: 647216608226 "Holy Smokes are a supergroup better than the sum of it's incalculably impressive parts (line-up includes members of Hella, Pinback, The Advantage and The Flying Luttenbachers)... A balancing act of incredible dexterity... a scorching mangle of instruments igniting waves of dreamily emotive melodies upon a dizzying volcanic terrain. This is barefoot shoegazing on a bed of hot coals." - Independence Now Talk To Your Kids About Gangs" is the culmination of a recording process that began in 2003, with the line-up of Zach Hill, Dan Elkan, Rob Crow, Carson McWhirter, Jonathan Hischke, Ian Hernandez and J.R. Thompson. The group first assembled for the album "Masculine Drugs", a soundtrack to a book penned by founder Zach Hill and released by Suicide Squeeze Records. On their Skin Graft debut, Holy Smokes arrive fully formed. Where the band's debut offered a discordant free-jazz-noise-rock shock, "Talk To Your Kids About Gangs" emerges as a harmonic tangle of pitches and thunder claps, that as they unravel, come into focus as intelligible, infectious oddments of grooving sonance. Make no mistake, these are songs: Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Synth, Drums, Samplers, Toys, Piano, Keyboards, Trumpet and Gadgets - no bullshit. Holy Smokes have recorded a masterfully drawn, spectral broadcast; a call to arms now and forever. Preview MP3: HERE |
YOWIE "Cryptooology" CD catalog #: GR74CD / barcode: 64721660742x "Its profound geographical isolation makes Australia an unlikely habitat for a missing link that could exist for millions of years without being documented by science, especially since no primates are indigenous to the continent. Nevertheless, the land down under claims its own version of Bigfoot, the Yowie. The creature's long history can be traced back to aborigine legends. An aborigine folk tale explains that when their people first migrated to Australia thousands of years ago, they encountered on the new continent a savage race of ape-men. The aborigines' ancestors went to war against the ape-men, and in the end the humans triumphed, thanks to their ability to make weapons. Ð Bigfoot Encounters Three years in the making, Cryptooology, Yowie's debut album, is an album at war. Yowie, a dual-guitar and drums trio from St. Louis, have been stunning audiences with their incomparable barrage of sonic kung fu. They accelerate the progressive-rock rhythmic sensibilities of RUINS and MAGMA and mutate them with the shriekier side of BIG BLACK and SLAYER. The band incorporates many variations in time signature, tempo, and tuning, to create a virtual audio maze, but no matter how complex things get their compositions remain cohesive and compelling.
