ITEM! MELT-BANANA's US tour has come to a close and capping it off, we have Janky Smooth reporting on the band's show at the Roxy in LA, with lots of photos and commentary on Psychic Graveyard too ("one of the best "noise rock bands I've ever seen"). Check it out HERE.

Months ago I'd pulled some things from the "archive" (ie: several old boxes stashed up in the attic) related to Melt-Banana "Scratch Or Stitch" with the intention of scanning and sharing some of it alongside the re-release... It's taken a while (!) but here is something.

Above is a SKiN GRAFT ad from 1996 - and it is a pretty good snapshot of where things were at at the time. The comic along the left side is the kind of thing that would get scribbled away on while on the phone... It is way too heavy-handed and clunky, but it reflects my then desire to steal the Incredible Hulk from Marvel - which is something that was executed much more gracefully in the Palace (Will Oldham) / ZENI GEVA split single & comic that came out the following year.

The ad also shows off a first pass at doing a mutant version of the Chicago Bulls logo. This idea was returned to for U.S. Maple's "Championship Tour" poster which eventually found its way onto the set of High Fidelity - and then (much) later - a U.S. Maple T-Shirt.

- and - up in the top right hand corner it reads:

"COLOR AND RETURN THIS AD WITH YOUR ORDER FOR A FREE MELT-BANANA / U.S. MAPLE EUROPEAN TOUR PRINT. NO XEROXES or COPIES ACCEPTED"

ITEM (!) - USA NAILS have dropped a video for "Horror Show"(click above) and CUNTROACHES will release their long form video for "Borborygmus" on Friday, October 28th. USA NAILS - Horror Show         
Formed through a mutual love of noise rock, punk and krautrock, USA Nails made their SKiN GRAFT debut earlier this year on the “Split” LP with Psychic Graveyard. For their return, they look no further than the world around us to pen “Horror Show”.

LOVELY LITTLE GIRLS - Procreation (Of The Wicked)
Chicago’s avant prog oddballs Lovely Little Girls are back with their reimagining of the Celtic Frost favorite, maintaining the songs malevolent mood while taking it places never heard before.

TERMS- Mouthful of Moss
Having served in acts such as Grand Ulena, Jitters and Yowie, Terms bring a wealth of experience and a heaping helping of the unexpected to the operating table. Their album “All Becomes Indistinct” will be released in 2023. This track is not on it.

TIJUANA HERCULES - Long Slide     
“No crossing the River Styx” - The Eye of Horus knew it all along and said it with a cha-cha beat. Past the ooze and straight to the Hillbilly Trance, “Long Slide” is a saucer-eyed hex where infinity never arrives. Conceived in the laboratories of Frogg Mountain Recording Studio.

PILI COïT - Lo Comte Arnau
On paper, Lyon’s Pili Coït sound simple enough: Jessica Martin Maresco (of Le Grand Sbam) on floor tom, oil can, synth, drum and vocals - plus Guilhem Meier (of Poil) on guitar and vocals. On record, Pili Coït come together - here for a haunting rendition of a traditional Occitan song. SKiN GRAFT will release their album “Love Everywhere” on vinyl in 2023.

PSYCHIC GRAVEYARD and JOHN DWYER - Is There A Hotline?|
The Osees’ John Dwyer takes Psychic Graveyard’s raw, emotion filled mechanics and puts them through ringer, remixing the four piece into a squirming sickly electronic mess of delights. 

JIM O’ROURKE - guising           
Taking up from where Brise-Glace’s Camp SKiN GRAFT track “likeness” left off one-hundred catalog numbers ago, Jim returns with “guising”, where scary sounds are scarred, then sewn up again into something resembling itself.

CUNTROACHES – Borborygmus
Here is a first dose of the type of noise-wave, black metal bombast Berlin’s Cuntroaches will bring to the fore in 2023.  Their full length is entering post-production. No one is ready.

STRANGULATED BEATOFFS - Happy Halloween
Now well into their fourth decade of existence, legendary SKiN GRAFT recording artists Strangulated Beatoffs (just barely) lift a finger to return with their first new recording in 10 years.

Cover artist Rob Syers is selling some of the album's original artwork and we've listed a number of "one-of a kind" bundles that include the CD / Cassette / Vinyl Magnet and one of the original drawings. “Sounds To Make You Shudder!” is now up for pre-orders at our Bandcamp page. It will be released on October 21st.

Many of the participants will be performing live in conjunction with the release. USA Nails is flying over to the USA - and they, as well as Terms, Psychic Graveyard and Child Abuse will be performing at the NO COAST Festival in Denton, Texas between October 27th and 30th.

Remember that ashes always seem to find a place and settle. Out of the ashes of old, Melt-Banana sizzle and scream, slide and skitter, scratch and stitch - heralding a new wave. Melt-Banana are real. They walk on water and effortlessly juggle all of those sharks nipping at their heels, the ones that think they're swimming in new, unexplored territories. Here are the imported children of no waves gone by, a hardcore-informed maelstrom of experimental heart surgery - straight from the heart of Tokyo's ferocious underground. 

In short? Take all of the scrabbling atonal dissonance of no wave, bathe it in the hysteria of hardcore, then rinse with the acceleration of speed metal. Repeat.

Melt-Banana will be touring the United States in the Fall of 2022 in conjunction with this release. Support will be provided by the likes of Psychic Graveyard, Deaf Club and No Age. This new glass-mastered compact disc edition of "Scratch or Stitch" comes packaged in a deluxe hi-gloss digipak with a full color, 12-panel fold-out poster-booklet containing lyrics and artwork. Musical guests include K.K. Null of Zeni Geva and Jim O'Rourke of Brise-Glace. Recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini. Mixed by Jim O’Rourke.

FUN FACTS:
“Scratch Or Stitch” was released in the USA and Europe in the summer of 1996 in conjunction with a co-headlining European tour with U.S. Maple. While touring the United Kingdom, U.S. Maple recorded Peel Sessions and Yasuko and Agata joined in on two of the tracks. The U.S. Maple "Banana-Peel sessions" have never been released.

The video for Sick Zip Everywhere was rejected by MTV in the states, but was honored as one of the best videos of the year on MTV in the UK.

On the strength of the release, MELT-BANANA made another swipe of the US, beginning in September of 1996, touring as a headliner for one and a half months in September of 96 and headlining the second night of SKiN GRAFT's OOPS(!) indoors festival alongside Lake Of Dracula, You Fantastic! and Mount Shasta.
